Meditation Room Décor Ideas

I have been looking for inspiration to decorate a room in my home for meditation and it’s been a struggle finding consistent work as it’s all spread out in different websites and social media apps. I decided to write a page and add some of my favorite decoration ideas and tips. Hope this finds its way to you and inspire you to create your own beautiful sanctuary in your home. Enjoy!

Creating a 5-sense experience

When starting with a project to making a meditation space, consider these:

  1. Sight: Find out what patterns and colors relax you most to be able to have more peaceful meditation sessions. Earthy neutral tones work best in aiding in relaxation but to some vibrant colors does the trick. Blue and Green hues for the wall paint and some décor items can be nice as those colors remind us of nature.

  2. Touch: Choosing clothing that are comfortable and also items that you may touch for any reason during meditation such as the chair or cushion that you will be sitting on, any beads or crystals that you will be holding, etc..

  3. Smell: Not necessary but optional to those that like to have gentle beautiful scents that help calm. Some use aromatherapy diffusers made from essential oils and some like the smell of candles and incense. Try Lavender, Chamomile, Eucalyptus, and Lemon essential oils!

  4. Taste: This is only if you like to have any drinks during your sessions (especially if they’re long) such as herbal teas, water with lemon, fresh fruit juices, or coffee if you’re a morning meditator.

  5. Hearing: Sounds are important to many people and one needs to find out if they like complete silence or prefer to hear sounds during their sessions. Some love the sounds of nature such as rain or birds as it helps them to stay in the moment and for that, they either open their windows to hear outside sounds or they use devices and speakers for recorded sounds through apps like Youtube, Pandora, and Spotify. A good add to the space would be an indoor water fountain!

Decorating with Plants

Living plants in a room where you will be breathing deeper is a must as it filters the air and produces more oxygen especially in rooms that don’t have windows that you can open for good air flow (such as ones in basements) or if you are living in a big city where the air is more polluted. Not to mention, caring for plants can be therapeutic to a lot of people!

A Versatile Room

A meditation room can be used for many other activities such as reading, napping or quiet time, visualizations, Astral traveling or projecting, planning and journaling, etc.. Make it a perfect environment for any any activity that you choose that brings positivity and calmness.

Keeping it Minimal

We all carry some form of a mental and emotional connection to every physical item that we own and sometimes, the less ‘things’ we have in our home, the more free we feel. Same idea when it comes to our meditative space; sometimes just cushion to sit on is all we need :)
