Rocking Black Lipstick Made Effortless: Simple Tricks and Tips
I find that liquid lipstick stays longer than traditional lipsticks especially when it comes to dark colors (most cover the inside of the lips and don’t stick to teeth). If you see any that are shiny, they’re most likely for photo-shooting only.
Here is the way I have worn black lipstick in the past:
I start by outlining my lips with a black pencil (you can use an eyeliner). Then I go ahead and apply a liquid black lipstick and pat my lips with my ring finger to spread the color and lightly tap towards the inner lips. Key is to not apply too much towards the inner lips that way it dries quicker and doesn’t leave too much color around to stick to my teeth. There are a lot of good black lipsticks on Amazon and at Ulta and Sephora.
This is a good example of shiny coats for photoshoots and runways. I have tried multiple times in keeping the pigment under shiny coats but it just does not last and sticks to teeth more than I want to.
Lydia’s infamous matte black lipstick! I love this look from her she’s absolutely stunning. To recreate a look similar, having a flawless canvas by incorporating a good skincare and following with foundation. Use concealer and powder if needed. Follow with a black liquid lipstick and outline with a black eyeliner if needed for a crisp line. If you can pull off dark brows like Lydia does, go right ahead. I prefer to stick to a color natural to my own brow color. She also has a small winged eyeliner and it’s up to you to have that black or any other color as well.
I love this look from KreativeHippie. To recreate this look, I would mix my tinted mineral sunscreen with foundation and follow with a bit of translucent powder and very minimal sheer blush. Apply a slightly darker shadow all over the lid and eyeliner and mascara. false lashes will also look great with this look! Then I would apply the lipstick and outline with a black eyeliner. Last, great brows can do wonders for any look!
Full face makeup here and it looks gorgeous! This lipstick looks matte and I love the outline as it gives fullness to her lips.
This may look simplistic but it definitely requires quite a bit of work. Her skin is glowing which looks amazing. She does seem to have a waterline black liner and a winged eye with a pink shadow. Overall looks natural and beautiful.

I love shiny lips for portraits. To recreate a similar look, I would outline my lips with a black lip or eyeliner then use either a lipstick or a liquid lipstick all over the lips. Try applying your favorite top coat without moving the color around. Sometimes you have to dab the applicator or use your fingers. If you don’t want to have this color stuck on your lip gloss applicator, try using a single use ones that can be found online or in stores that sell bulk beauty business supplies.
This is a beautiful matte lip color that goes really well with the soft rusty orange eyeshadow. It’s a great look for fall!
This is a bold look for someone with lighter completion and hair color. She seems to have either lash extensions or lash strips. She has her waterline colored black and some shimmer light and dark grey shadows with a black matte lip.
If you want smaller lips, instead of outlining your lips, draw a line inside of your natural lip line then fill in with lipstick. Another trick is that if either your upper or lower lip is bigger than the other or is misshaped, you can correct it by lining it the way you want.
This is another natural look with bold lips. Start by using either a sheer foundation or a tinted moisturizer or sunscreen, then apply a transitioning color to the lids after applying an eyeshadow primer. Fill in your brows then go for the lips!
