Midjourney Glitches
In my recent curious trip into the AI image generator called Midjourney, I noticed that some of images that it creates are disturbed and some are actually hilarious!
So, I went over to ChatGPT (my new search engine) and asked why systems like Midjourney have a lot of errors, this is the responce that I got:
AI systems like Midjourney AI can have errors like missing limbs or adding extra pieces due to the complexity of their algorithms and the limitations of their training data.
Here are the basics of AI image generators: At the heart of systems like MidJourney are neural networks, intricate algorithms inspired by the human brain's structure. These networks analyze vast amounts of data to learn patterns, styles, and correlations that are in the input images. Once they’re trained, they attempt to recreate or generate new images based on this learned information.
Here's why these glitches can occur:
Training Data: AI models learn from vast amounts of data, but if the training data doesn't cover every possible scenario, the AI might struggle with unique cases, leading to mistakes like missing limbs or extra pieces.
Variability: Human bodies and objects are incredibly diverse, with numerous shapes, sizes, and configurations. AI might not have encountered all these variations during its training, causing errors when generating new content.
Interpolation: AI uses patterns it learned from training data to create new content. If it encounters an unfamiliar situation, like a rare pose or object, it might interpolate based on what it knows, leading to errors.
Complexity: Generating realistic images is challenging, and AI might not fully understand the complexity of human anatomy or object structures, resulting in inaccuracies.
Context Understanding: AI might struggle to grasp the context of an image, causing it to misinterpret elements or add objects that don't belong.
Image Quality: Low-quality input images can contribute to errors in generated content. If details are unclear, AI might have a harder time replicating them accurately.
Algorithm Limitations: AI models have limitations based on their architecture and design. They might not always comprehend complex relationships between different elements in an image.
This is a list of errors that Midjourney may have in the rendered images:
Extra or Missing Features: Like adding an extra finger to a hand or missing one altogether.
Creating realistic hand images is a challenge for Midjourney AI and similar systems. Hands vary a lot in shape, size, and pose. When AI tries to copy these details, it can mess up, like adding an extra finger or missing one.
This happens because AI learns from tons of pictures, but not all hand poses are covered. So, with new poses, it gets confused. Mistakes can also come from how AI reads input data and tries to make new pictures.
Picture quality matters too. If AI learns from unclear images, it might make errors when making new ones. Things like lighting and angles in training images can affect how well AI understands complex hand features.
Midjourney AI's creators are always improving. They need feedback about problems, like extra or missing fingers, to fix them. It helps them tweak the AI's rules, get more diverse training pictures, and make sure it accurately creates hand images in all poses.
Unrealistic Proportions: Generating images where body parts are out of proportion or don't look natural.
Misplaced Objects: Placing objects in odd or incorrect positions within the image.
Unnatural Textures: Creating textures that don't look realistic, such as skin textures appearing too smooth or unnatural.
Incorrect Perspective: Misjudging angles and perspectives, making objects or elements appear distorted or off.
I personally haven’t had the issues in the bottom list happen to me yet but here are the rest:
Blurred Details: Generating images with blurry or unclear details, especially in complex areas like faces or intricate patterns.
Inaccurate Lighting: Getting the lighting wrong, making the image look unrealistic or mismatched.
Unintended Background Elements: Adding or removing elements from the background that don't fit the scene.
Strange Coloration: Producing images with unnatural color combinations or shifts.
Wrong Context: Creating images that don't match the intended context, like placing inappropriate elements in certain
Weird Artifacts: Introducing strange artifacts or visual glitches that weren't present in the original image.
This one made me laugh! See if you can find what’s wrong with it.
